Dr. Smith finished his postdoctoral fellowship training under the mentorship of Dr. Sangeeta Bhatia at MIT’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, where he investigated microfluidic models of biliary morphogenesis. In addition to this work, Dr. Smith used novel 3D culture platforms to generate liver-derived organoid tissue as a platform to study regeneration.
As a graduate student under the guidance of Dr. Sharon Gerecht, Quinton implemented various engineering tools to explore the roles of physical and chemical cues on stem cell lineage specification and downstream maturation.
Dr. Smith is currently an assistant professor at the University of California Irvine, in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and started his group in April 2021.
